FIRM PRESSURE: The adhesive is activated with pressure. Applying the label from one side to the other will help prevent air from being trapped under it. WARM TEMPERATURES: Adhesive sticks better and cures better in warm temperatures. Very cold temperatures will cause the adhesive to have less tack and it may begin to lift. The ideal label and surface temperature is between 70-90°F (21-32°C). When storing labels, keeping them between 60-90°F (15-32°C) is recommended. GIVE THEM TIME: The pressure of applying a label begins the curing process. The adhesive will slowly become stronger over time and will usually be fully cured in about 1-2 weeks. Note about putting labels on plastic surfaces: These stickers sometimes go on plastic surfaces. Care must be taken to thoroughly CLEAN the surface if sticking to plastic. Regardless of the surface type, any grease, oil or vinyl dressing residue (such as Armour All) will defeat the adhesive and cause the sticker to un-stick. So I recommend a good cleaning and wiping the surface with alcohol, acetone or similar anti-grease solvent before putting down the sticker. The best treatment for stubborn surfaces is using an Adhesion Promoter, such as 3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter, Sponge Applicator (Amazon link). I now offer this item below. |
CLEAN SURFACE: The surface should be clean of dust, grit or oils. Glass should be free of chemicals like Rain-X. Alcohol or a solvent cleaner may be used on non-painted surfaces, but should be tested in an out of sight area first. Oils from your hands can contaminate the surface and degrade the sticker adhesive. PREPARING THE APPLICATION FLUID: If you're tempted to grab some window cleaner, I would not unless maybe it's ammonia and alcohol free. Applying vinyl on a wet surface using proper fluid will allow you to reposition or slide the decal to the correct position. So the fluid needs to be slick. This also allows for better results by reducing air bubbles behind the vinyl. You should use clean water with a small amount of dishwashing liquid soap. The amount of soap should be a few drops in a pint of water (16 ounces). Dishwashing liquid is best, since it's there to break the surface tension of the water, which you can't count on some other soaps to do. Put this liquid in a spray bottle. APPLYING THE VINYL: Remove the decal backing and generously spray the back of the decal (adhesive side). Now generously spray the surface (glass, paint, etc.). Place the decal on the wet surface and spray a little fluid on the front of the decal so the squeegee slides easily. This helps the squeegee works and reduces the chance of scratching the decal surface. Slid the decal it into position. SQUEEGEE TIME: You may use a credit card or a stiff rubber squeegee. If you think there is a chance your tool will scratch the decal, you may wrap a piece of soft, thin cloth over the edge. Something like this tool is perfect: https://www.amazon.com/ABN-High-Quality-Decal-Squeegee. The squeegee will be used for scraping, or "squeegeeing" the fluid out from under the decal. Then let it sit and dry on it's own (in the sun will speed this up). It could take a day or so for things to dry out completely. Die
Cut Vinyl Graphics Application
Store in a cool,
dry place, out of direct sunlight until ready to apply. Application is best when temperature is between 50 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If applied on glass, clean surface thoroughly, especially if there was ever any Rain-X or other chemicals on it. If applied on a painted surface, keep in mind the adhesive is pretty strong and may need some heat (such as a hair dryer) to remove later. This decal consists of 3 layers: 1. The clear bottom liner (bottom layer) 2. The vinyl decal (middle layer) 3. The clear top mask (top layer) Preparing for Application (Dry Application Method): If applying this to a car, it's best it the car is in a cool area away from direct sun. Before starting the application process, place decal face-up on hard, flat surface. Pressing firmly, rub the top mask back and forth over the vinyl decal. This is to make sure the decal sticks to the top mask when the bottom liner is removed. |

<<< Lifting the Decal
from the
Bottom Liner:Starting at one corner, slowly peel the top mask from the bottom liner. The decal should lift from the bottom liner as you pull and remain attached to the top mask. The sticky side of the vinyl will be exposed, so do not touch it. If any part of the decal is stubborn and not lifting off the bottom liner, then lay the top mask back down, firmly rub the area, and try again. If the decal becomes stubborn and won't lift, you can use a small sharp pick or tool to gently lift the edge up to get it started. Applying the Decal to Surface: Holding the sides of the top mask, lay the image down onto the surface in the desired position. Take your time in positioning, because once it sticks, it stays! Using your fingers or better yet, a credit card, rub across the top mask from the center of the decal outward to push out any trapped air. Then, starting at one corner, slowly peel the top mask off, leaving only the decal. As you peel the mask off, if any part of the decal begins to lift, push the mask back down and rub some more so it stays. |

| BRAKE CALIPERS If applying to BRAKE CALIPERS, it is recommended they be painted and smooth. Vinyl likes to have a smooth surface to stick to. And the surface needs to be CLEAN. It is optional (some people highly recommend) to spray some high-temp clear sealer over the decal after (ordinary DupliColor aerosol is usually good enough) to help keep the vinyl from lifting later as it can happen. |

240 Wiper Lever Restoration Labels FULL SET OF LABELS FOR ALL 240 WIPER LEVER STYLES If your 240 wiper lever text and images are fading away, you may now renew it with a new overlay. This is a group set of multiple different graphic image vinyl labels from several different styles of 240 wiper levers. It will match a variety of years. The large label is for a 245 wagon with rear glass wiper. It was carefully designed to wrap around three sides of the lever. Or if needed it can be cut apart and pieces can be installed. These have a matte non-glare finish. Thorough cleaning of the lever is required before installing an overlay. TACK Limited Edition Dash Panel Overlay Volvo also produced a limited series of 1993 240 versions known as 240 TACK for the Japanese market. This was a final limited run of 500 1993 240s (sedans and wagons) to commemorate the end of the 240 line. These cars were normally lessor optioned cars. This size door produced late 1978 (for 1979 model year) through 1989.This label is PN 1350390 for a 240 in North America. This one has been found on BOTH a 1984 and a 1985 car. This can get confusing because this label shows the fuel pumps at fuses 5 and 7, while many other 1985 cars have been found with the pumps at fuses 4 and 6. So this information suggests that it's possible some 1985 cars kept the earlier fuse arrangement at 5 and 7, while some got the new fuse arrangement with pumps at 4 and 6. If the fuel pump arrangement on your car is in question, the only way to know for certain will be to check which pair of fuses are wired to your fuel pumps. Proper Positioning of the above white text label. The horizontal position normally appears to be approximately 30 mm to the rear of the fuel door edge. The vertical position varied often, but from original examples I have found, the top of the label was either lined up just below the top of the fuel door (as shown on the brown 240 to the left) or it was a bit lower, up to about 10 to 15 mm below the top of the fuel door, as shown in this green 240 photo below.
