Overlays
for Volvo Economy Gauge
 NOTE: Regarding disassembling this
gauge:
The disassembly of this gauge will
likely present a problem. It is constructed
similar to the Volvo 240 Turbo Boost gauge,
however the problem is that the needle is very
difficult to remove. Normal procedures that
work well for all other gauges do not work
for this one. An effort to pull the needle
from this gauge may result in irreparable damage
to the internal mechanism.
The
Solution:
The
solution is to leave the needle in place after
opening the gauge housing per
instructions. Then you will to slit the
white face vertically with a razor or Exacto
knife below the needle hole to the bottom edge
of the face. Be sure to use a very sharp
razor so that the cut is clean and thin.
The cleaner the cut, the more invisible it will
be upon completion. Finally, slip the
white face on under the needle. This will
obviously take a steady hand once you have put
adhesive on the face. Printable

for VDO Vacuum Gauge |

The
below TWO VDO vacuum gauges are a little different from each other. One has two visible screws and one has no screws.
I have developed overlays to convert both types. This gauge with screws
appears very similar to other VDO Vacuum and Boost
gauges, which have the two screws at the bottom. The one without
screws appears the same as Volvo 240 boost gauges, which do not have
those screws.
Note about the LIMIT PIN: Both of these gauges have a limit pin to limit the needle from going past the orange
area. For the gauge with screws, currently I DO NOT have enough info to accurately add that limit hole on
the overlay. So if you buy one of the overlays (with screws), you'll need
to create a hole for that pin during installation. |

Adhesion Promoter
(Primer) is recommended to improve the
installation of all gauge face overlays. If your car may
be subjected to high interior temperatures (parked
outside), the adhesive on the backs of overlays can
soften and allow the edges to lift over time. Applying a
little of this before installation on the faceplate
edges will greatly improve adhesion. For convenience, a
cotton swab is included. This isn't some mythical
snake-oil. It has been tested and works great.
