| Custom
replacement ENGINE WIRING HARNESSES for Volvo 960
Lots of
Volvo engine harnesses are suffering as
they get older. This is not really unique to the
960. The 960 was made from 1991 to 1998
(called as the S90 or V90 in later years) and parts of
this harness are deteriorating after
prolonged exposure to high heat. If you
inspect your 960 engine wiring harness and
see discolored connectors like this below, then
I'm sorry to say the days are numbered for
your harness. When new, those two
bullet inserts are clear silicone. This is the last stage before they begin crumbling apart.
  If you keep looking, you'll find more this problems in other areas. The ultimate problem for these terminals is they become so deteriorated and brittle that they fall apart. This of course brings connectivity problems. You're car begins to misbehave and your nightmare begins.   |

| HARNESS DETAILS An enormous effort has gone into the design and production of this harness. The cheap, brittle convoluted plastic harness sleeve tubing has been replaced with nice looking vinyl sleeve tubing. | First, look for your harness PART NUMBER. It
can be found on your engine harness on a printed label
(BELOW PHOTO) attached to a hard plastic channel conduit near the
main ECU connector. This one pictured is PN
9128642 and this will be the most common PN found for this harness.
This harness will also replace a harness with part numbers: 9130022,
9130428, 6849711, or 6849712. If you have found a different part number please email and we'll see what we can find. This particular harness has one connector for an EGR temperature sensor. There's only ONE connector for EGR, which means the difference between an EGR harness and a non-EGR harness is just ONE connector. So if you have a similar 960 without EGR, then your harness may be the same (or very close) except for that one EGR connector, which may be left unplugged. You can EMAIL me anytime to discuss this. Also you should have a look at the large white plastic wire connector under your hood. Early 960s will have one that looks like this PHOTO BELOW, which is usually found in models up to 1995 (1995 was a transition year). It's under a BLACK PLASTIC COVER under the hood. If you see a SECOND smaller connector next to this connector, LOOK HERE to see if you might have a later 960 harness.

This means that the customer (YOU) must have or be able to supply these parts from your old harness. PART #1: This large 53-pole
connector is at the head of this harness (shown below). It
is no longer available as a new part. So the only option is
a USED
connector shell, such as the one that is in your car now.
If you're interested in having this connector
installed by me on a new harness, you will need to send a used connector. Or you may
install your connector on a new harness. Full instructions are
provided.

PART #2: This hard plastic
conduit channel shown here BELOW is no longer
available new. You may re-use the same channel
conduit from your car. There is NO need to send us one. This part is made to split apart, so it can be removed from your old harness and reinstalled on the
new harness when you complete your installation.
This conduit is secured to the harness using a nylon zip-tie, which can be seen in this photo.
Until they become NLA, Your new harness will come with all other channel conduits (as shown in above harness photos).  |

| 1995 or 1996-1998 960, S90, V90 ENGINE HARNESSES. NOTED CHANGES.  Beginning in 1995 (960 made after September 1995) Volvo began using the ABOVE pictured relay box in the engine bay. This versions used the large white 55-pole connector (connector #1 in ABOVE photo), which has the bolt going through it. 
The 1996 model also used this same Connector #1, but additionally had another smaller connector, Connector #2 shown above. CONNECTOR #1 in these photos is NO LONGER AVAILABLE (NLA) as a new part. To create a new harness, a used connector must be supplied by you or installed by you on a new harness. This can be the connector from your car or a donor connector from a parts car. CONNECTOR #2 in this photo above is also NO LONGER AVAILABLE as a new part. Same story. We do not have enough info yet to make this type of harness available, but we are open to giving it a try.
